You're 70--Now What?
View Version History

by Myrtille, aka Myz

When I reached 70 the first time, i would have liked having some synopsis of what is all about. I noticed that lately, we have a lot of new 70s. I hope it'll help you enjoy and understand what the end-game is about!

You heard it so many times: "Wait until you hit 70!", "You'll see when you'll be 70!" What's the big deal about being 70?!

Being 70 is like starting a new game. Sometimes, you'll feel like a newbie, and it's normal! You thought you knew your class, now, your discovering several new aspects of it. Why is that? Because being 70 means new game content, means raids, means farming, means fine tuning of your character, means dailies, means a lot of new things!

But DON'T PANIC! It also means a lot of fun, with a lot of those new things you'll learn.

WHAT YOU WANT TO KNOW AS A 70

REPUTATION (Rep)
http://www.wowwiki.com/Reputation (all the quest item, the rewards, the quests to do, and more)

You want to get reputation with certain factions. This rep aloud you to buy things from the quartermaster of the faction. What can you buy? Recipe/formula for your professions, good gear, and the key to unlock heroics instances. You will gain reputation doing quest, turning quest item and doing instances. Each faction has his own quests and instances.

If there is one advice I can give: there is repeatable quests you can do, where you turn quest item to gain rep. You can usually do those quests until you become friendly with a faction. After that, you have to do quests or instances to gain rep. An easier way to gain rep, is to max out those repeatable quests BEFORE doing any other quest for a faction. This way, your rep will go higher, faster. No obligation, just a suggestion.

FACTIONS
http://www.wowwiki.com/Faction (list of all)
http://www.wowwiki.com/Aldor_vs._Scryer (help to choose)

First thing, you have to choose a side in Shattrath City: Aldor or Scryer. You choose one; you'll be hated by the other, so choose carefully. Look at what the quartermaster of each of those factions gives you, ask advice, and read about it. Generally, Aldor is good for healing types, where Scryers have some great damage gear.

DAILIES
http://www.wowwiki.com/Dailies (list of all dailies available)

Dailies are repeatable quests you can do once a day, when you reach 70. They're mostly used to farm gold and reputation.

FARMING
http://www.wowwiki.com/Farming

When you reach 70, you'll probably have to do farming to get gold, or to get material to craft items to improve your character or level a profession.

GEAR
Ahhhhh, the so wanted gear! Go see the LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR CLASS part, lower in the thread. I suggest you get advice before spending time, badges and gold on something new.

FLYING!!
http://www.wowwiki.com/Flying

Yay! You are 70, you are allowed to fly! (Unless you are one of those lucky druid that already have it since L68)

RAIDS

http://www.blades-of-light.com/viewthread.php?threadid=1359 (BoL looting rules)

http://www.wowwiki.com/Server:Sentinels_US/Guild_Progression

There is no obligation to raid. Some like it, some don't. For those who like it: you knew 5 mans instances, now you're going in 10 and 25 men. More challenging, much better gear and rewards.

The natural progression (not an absolute, but easier that way for new 70) after hitting 70 would be:

* Continue regular instances to get gear and rep with factions, until you can do heroic instances
* The regular Tempest Keep instances, cause you need to fly to go there. (Botanica, Arcatraz, Mechanar)
* Heroic instances http://www.wowwiki.com/Heroic (where getting the key and more)
o Those are the Outlands instances you know, but with heroic status, so harder, with better rewards. To get in those with heroic status, you need a key. To get the key, you need the reputation with the faction related to the heroic instance you want to do. (See Rep and Faction section).
o The boss in heroics and raids will drop Badges of Justice, which can be use to buy very good gear (T5-T6 equivalent). Spend those carefully!
http://www.wowwiki.com/Badge_of_justice
http://www.wowwiki.com/Badge_of_Justice_rewards
* Karazhan is the first 10 mans you should attempt. BoL runs several a week. The regular Kara run and the Karathon. Regular Kara run are for people that still need explanation for the fights, since they didn't run the whole instance. When you know each fight for each boss, when you have done the instance at least 2 or 3 times and feel comfortable about the fights, then you can think about moving to Karathon. Karathons are for people who don't need explanations for any of the boss/mobs they will encounter. It's a fast run for experiment players, mainly done to gain badges.
http://www.wowwiki.com/Karazhan
* After Karazhan, Gruul's Lair (http://www.wowwiki.com/Gruul%27s_Lair) and Magtheridon (http://www.wowwiki.com/Magtheridon%27s_Lair) are the natural next step. Those are the 25 men you want to attempt first, to get use to how it works.
* Serpentshrine Cavern (http://www.wowwiki.com/Serpentshrine_Cavern) and Tempest Keep (http://www.wowwiki.com/Eye_(Tempest_Keep) ) are where the guild progression is right now.

ADD-ONS (or mods)
http://www.wowwiki.com/Mod

Mods are little programs that you can install with WoW and help you with anything you want to do. Some of those are very useful in Raids, as Omen, Bigwigs, Deadly Boss Mod and Healbot (for healers). BoL uses mainly Omen 2. It's a mod used to see the threat (aggro of the mobs) you and the others raid members do. As a DPS, healer or OT (off-tank), you're supposed to stay under the tank threat. Otherwise, it could result in your death (little loss) to wipe the raid (mmm bigger loss?). We've all wiped a raid at least once/ It's a learning experience you will probably do, and try to not repeat. Most of these are listed on the right side of the website.

LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR CLASS AND SPEC
http://www.wowwiki.com/Class

What is your role in a raid? What can you bring to complete the group? There is a lot to know and learn when you reach 70 with a character.

Is your spec (talent tree) optimized to your need? Do you need to respec (unlearn talent to redistribute your talent points somewhere else)?
http://www.wowwiki.com/Talent
http://www.wowarmory.com/ to search for someone spec

What are the stats you want to focus on? How does it work? Each class and each spec have is own! You feel lost? Totally normal! You need help? Totally normal!

BoL has good players of each class. If you don't know any, ask an officer to refer you to the right person to answer your questions.
