GENERAL LOOTING GUIDELINES

Parties made up of 60% or more BoL members are assumed to be BoL parties, and will be run under BoL loot rules. Make sure that everyone understands these rules before you begin.

TERMS AND DEFINITIONS
  • BoE: Bind-on-Equip (can be given to another player or sold).
  • BoP: Bind-on-Pickup (becomes soulbound as soon as it is picked up).
  • Ninja'ing: Taking an item without permission. A serious offense.
  • Pass: Clicking the "Red X" in the upper right corner of the loot window.
  • Roll Greed: Clicking the "Greed" button in the loot window.
  • Roll Need: Clicking the "Need" button in the loot window.
  • Upgrade: An item that you can equip which has better stats than the item you are currently using in that slot.

GENERAL CONDUCT
  • If you are new to running instances, let the party leader know that you will need help with looting decisions.
  • When in doubt about a situation, ask the party or raid leader before looting.
  • Do not loot while in combat!!! This causes lack of focus, and may lead to unnecessary wipes.
  • Always ask before looting a Bind-on-Pickup (BoP) item.
  • Always ask before selecting "Need" on any item. When in doubt, either "Pass" or wait until the timer expires. Never select "Greed" when you are in doubt about what to do.
  • Congratulate players when they receive a nice piece of upgraded gear.
  • Thank the group whenever you receive a nice piece of upgraded gear.
  • Never use the "/roll" command unless you are really rolling for an item.
  • If you have already rolled "Need" on a Blue or Purple item during the instance run and you won the item, you should not roll "Need" again during the rest of then run unless everyone else passes on an item that is an upgrade for you. Check with the raid leader in these cases.
  • If someone accidentally clicks "Need" or "Greed" instead of passing, they must give the item to the person who wins the roll for it.
  • The party's enchanter should wait until all other members have passed in order to prevent accidental ninja'ing. If someone accidentally rolls "Greed", the enchanter should "Need" the item and then disenchant it so everyone can roll on the shard(s). If there is no enchanter in the group, everyone rolls for the item. (The winner will have to vendor it.)
  • Master Looter may be used at the discretion of the raid leader for larger raid groups as well as "important" bosses in 10-man raids.

SPECIFIC SITUATIONS
  • Roll "Greed" on Green items unless they are a significant upgrade for you. (If it is an upgrade, say so in party chat, then ask the party if it is OK to roll "Need." If you then win the item, thank everyone and equip it immediately.) If everyone rolls "Greed," the winner of the item can do anything they want to with it: equip, vendor, sell on AH, send to guild bank, etc.
  • Roll "Greed" on Blue BoE items unless they are a significant upgrade for you. (If it is an upgrade, say so in party chat, then ask the party if it is OK to roll "Need". If you then win the item, thank everyone and equip it immediately.) If everyone rolls "Greed", the winner of the item can do anything they want to with it: equip, vendor, sell on AH, send to guild bank, etc.
  • Always pass on any Blue or Purple BoP item that you cannot equip.
  • Always pass on any items that start quests, regardless of their color.
  • Pass on Blue BoP items unless they are a significant upgrade for you. If it is an upgrade for you and you would use it immediately, say so in party chat. Roll for it only if the party leader tells you to.
  • Pass on Purple BoE items initially so the group can discuss. If it is an upgrade for you and you would use it immediately, say so in party chat. Roll for it only if the party leader tells you to. If no one can use it as an upgrade, everyone should roll for it. The winner of the roll can do anything they want with the item (equip, vendor, sell on AH, send to guild bank, etc.)
  • Pass on Purple BoP items, then discuss in party chat. Follow the same procedure as with Blue BoP items.
  • Patterns and Recipes: Roll "Need" if you can learn the pattern; otherwise roll "Greed." If everyone rolls "Greed", the winner can do anything they want with the item (sell on AH, send to guild bank, etc.) Some higher-level patterns appear only to those who have the appropriate level in that profession. When this happens, roll "Need" if you can learn it, or pass if you already know it. This should be done quickly and without discussion.
  • Rare Patterns and Recipes: When a rare pattern or recipe drops for the first time, it will be awarded to the highest-ranking person present who is available to learn it. (This is so that this knowledge has a higher likelihood of staying within the guild.) Subsequent drops are open to any member of the raid, with preference given to guild crafters.
  • Chests: WoW automatically registers rolls for gear in chests. The rest (money, potions, etc.) should be looted quickly and apportioned at an appropriate time if necessary.

PRIORITY FOR LOOTING BoE EPICS IN WotLK RAIDS

Starting with WotLK, many bosses will drop BoE epics. Priority for rolling on these will be as follows:
  1. Raid member for main spec
  2. Raid member for off spec
  3. Raid member's alt
  4. Greed roll (winner may do with it what they wish)
Raid members can roll for only one item, unless enough items drop that everyone has gotten something OR by unanimous agreement of the raid group.
